Healing sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence in Los Angeles and beyond…

Patti Occhiuzzo Giggans grew up in the 1960’s learning about the holocaust, the civil rights movement and the feminist and gay rights movements.

Patti has held leadership positions in the field of sexual assault and domestic violence including president of The California Coalition Against Sexual Assault and founding board member of the California Partnership To End Domestic Violence.  She helped create violence prevention curricula, co-authored books on teen dating violence and women’s self-defence, and founded the first women’s martial arts school in Southern California in 1978.

Since 1985, Patti Giggans has been the Executive Director of Peace Over Violence, a nonprofit social service agency based in Los Angeles dedicated to building healthy relationships, families and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence.She has co-authored In Touch With Teens, Women’s Self-Defense and Safety: An Empowerment and Resiliency Model, and When Dating Becomes Dangerous (Hazelden). She is a recipient of the California Peace Prize.
